Well, my campaign should be up and running by tomorrow, most likely within the next few hours. And I’m anxiously clicking around on my computer and checking my emails as if that will help things get better.
It takes a few days for them to set up the campaign after you submit. I did have to send in the entire manuscript, and they clipped the sample for me to share with readers. I also have a link to a sample page to examine it and make sure my information is right.
It’s easy. Kindle Scout wants it to be easy. All people have to do is click the link, possibly sign into Amazon, and then click on the vote button. The trick is just getting people to click the link.
I have a small following, as far as authors go. Twitter is by far my largest and most engaged social network, but I still have under a thousand followers. Everyone disagrees on how important votes are to a novel, but the general consensus is that more is better. I recently read a blog post by an author who did everything she could think of to engage potential readers–only to be turned down at the end of the month. I don’t want to over-stress myself if it won’t help me, but I do want to do what I can to take action.
I’ve also looked through the previously selected books to see what generally works. My results? It’s completely unpredictable. Fiction, non-fiction, inventive, common, there were no patterns that I could see. It’s possible that the covers and the interior editing were the deciding factors, and in that case, I don’t think I need to worry. Most of the books that I looked at on the site itself were only minimally edited with several typos or sections with awkward wording. It’s going to be a long month
It’s going to be a long month whichever way it goes. In the meantime, I’ll watch the clock and keep my fingers crossed!
